The main aim of the Center za kartografijo favne in flore - Centre for Cartography of Fauna and Flora (CKFF) is to collect, organize and disseminate data and information about the occurrence of plant and animal species in Slovenia. It maintains very possibly the largest database in Slovenia, currently with more than 1,130,000 datasets with a daily increase. Some data are available through GIS interface to users. CKFF is working on surveys of flora, vegetation, fauna and habitat types for Nature Conservation and Spatial Planning purposes. CKFF employs 15 full-time experts, computer programmer and 14 biologists, mostly specialists for habitat types, vascular plants and different animal groups (dragonflies, butterflies, amphibians, bats, freshwater fishes). We also offer consultancy and GIS support for Nature conservation purposes. Our multi discipline approach - based on biological, cartographic and information technology knowledge, supported by extensive database - enables us to take part in a wide range of different activities.

CKFF is or was recently involved in the following European projects: ALARM (FP6), EUMON (FP6), DAISIE (FP6) Indicative map PEEN SEE (PanEuropean Ecological Network in South-Eastern Europe) as map producer, Important European Plant Areas, MacMan (as associate partner), Interreg III A - Phare CBC Austria- Slovenia project: "Amphibienschutz im Alpen-Adria-Raum" (2002-2006), Interreg III A Slovenia-Austria: “Amphibian and Bat Conservation in Alps-Adriatic region”, Interreg III A Slovenia-Italy: “1001 karst ponds, 1001 stories of life”, Life - Nature Project: Conservation of endangered habitats/species in the future Karst Park (2002-2005). CKFF is Slovenian National Partner of European Centre for Nature Conservation (ECNC). CKFF was leader of several national tenders for the Proposal for the designation of pSAC Natura 2000 sites for amphibians, dragonflies and habitat types in Slovenia. CKFF is Slovenian National Partner of European Centre for Nature Conservation (ECNC).
